PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a license authentication system and a method using a removable device having a MAC address that can dispense with user's labor and can impart convenient device inheritance. PSOLUTION: The license authentication system comprises a PC 10 connectable to a network, a USB device 20 having a MAC address and attachable to a port of the PC 10, a CD/DVD drive device for installing a program on the PC 10, and a keyboard for inputting an authentication license into the PC 10. The PC 10 with the program using a MAC address in license authentication installed acquires the MAC address from the USB device 20 attached to the port, acquires a MAC address included in license data decoded from the authentication license inputted from the keyboard, and if a comparison finds both matching, permits the use of the program.
