PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a periodic structure capable of flexibly controlling a photonic band gap by a relatively simple technique, and its manufacturing method.;SOLUTION: The periodic structure 100 has a periodic refractive index distribution at least along a predetermined direction. A plurality of rod parts 110 extending in the predetermined direction are regularly arranged in the in-plane direction of crossing the predetermined direction. At least a part of the wall surface extending in the predetermined direction of each of the rod parts 110 has a modulation structure 101 modulated in the distribution of a refractive index sensed by the electromagnetic wave such as a tetrahertz wave or the like propagated in the predetermined direction A structure wherein a plurality of the rod parts 110 having the modulation structures 101 are regularly arranged in the same in-plane direction are periodically arranged in the predetermined direction at a predetermined interval.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
