PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve stability of a power supply voltage for a liquid crystal television receiver. PSOLUTION: In the liquid crystal television receiver, luminance of backlight which emits light to form an image by transmitting through a liquid crystal panel is gradually decreased (step S203 to step S208). After the luminance is decreased, a panel signal to the liquid crystal panel is controlled from an on state into an off state (step S211). After the panel signal is controlled into the off state, the backlight is controlled from an on state into an off state (step S213). Since the variation in the luminance per time is decreased compared with the case of decreasing luminance in a single step, the variation in the electric power supplied to the backlight can be decreased, which results in decrease in the variation of load on the electric power of the liquid crystal television receiver.
