PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for rationally and easily evaluating biological toxicity or efficacy of numerous kinds of natural/artificial chemical substances, food, and the like. ;SOLUTION: In this biological evaluation method for a specimen substance, a known amount of 2'-deoxyguanosine dG is added to a solution containing the specimen substance drug, agricultural chemical, cancerogenic substance, endocrine disrupting substance, functional food, or the like) and an amount of 8-hyroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine 8OHdG is measured in the solution after ultraviolet irradiation/addition of an active oxygen generating agent, as necessary, and then presence/absence of toxicity or efficacy of the specimen substance is evaluated according to the amount of 8OHdG (higher amount of 8OHdG means higher toxicity of the specimen substance, while a lower amount of 8OHdG means lower toxicity of efficacy). From the content ratio of 8OHdG to dG in a biological cell origin product (blood, urine, cellulicidal fluid and the like) of an animal such, as humans, ingesting the specimen substance, toxicity or efficacy of the specimen substance is evaluated.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2001,JPO
