PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To heighten measurement accuracy in a sensor for measuring the nitrogen oxide concentration by utilizing first and second pump cells.;SOLUTION: This NOx sensor 2 is equipped with the first pump cell 10 constituted of a solid electrolyte layer 4a and a first under surface electrode 12 and a first upper surface electrode 14 formed respectively on the under surface and the upper surface of the solid electrolyte layer 4a, and the second pump cell 20 constituted of the solid electrolyte layer 4a and a second under surface electrode 22 and a second upper surface electrode 24 formed respectively on the under surface and the upper surface of the solid electrolyte layer 4a. The first under surface electrode 12 decomposes NOx contained in gas to be measured in a gas introduction chamber 6 to generate oxygen, while the second under surface electrode 22 is formed with the gold content of 35-90 wt.% and does not decompose NOx. The first under surface electrode 12 and the second under surface electrode 22 are formed mutually adjacently on the under surface of the solid electrolyte layer 4a, and the shape of an adjacent part in a plan view is a ridged and grooved shape, and the ridged portion is inserted into the grooved portion mutually.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
