A method of verifying the authenticity of a first subscriber in a communication network, in which first error information is formed for the first communication subscriber by using an error recognition report of the service provider and information via a contingency report. Similarly, second error information is formed for the second subscriber in the communication network. By using the first and second error information, the authenticity of the first communication subscriber is checked. A difference between the error recognition report of the first communication subscriber and the error recognition report of the second subscriber is determined.
