PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly determine a nucleus, as to an inspection device and method for the nucleus, capable of determining a pearl nucleus or the like. PSOLUTION: This device/method comprises a support means 3 of a nonmagnetic substance capable of imparting vibration to the nucleus 13 supported removably onto a support part 15, a magnetic susceptibility inspection means 5, capable of impressing a magnetic field to the nucleus 13 to detect a magnetic susceptibility of the nucleus 13, and a determination means 7 for determining the nucleus 13, based on the weight magnetic susceptibility calculated from the detected magnetic susceptibility of the nucleus 13 and the weight of the nucleus 13. The weight magnetic susceptibility is calculated from the detected magnetic susceptibility of the nucleus 13 and the weight of the nucleus 13 by the magnetic susceptibility inspection means 5, and the nucleus 13 is determined quickly and exactly, based on the difference in the weight magnetic susceptibilities.
