Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP)-binding domains of repulsive guidance molecule (RGM), are new. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) antigenic polypeptide fragment of the BMP-binding domain; (2) fusion protein containing at least one first biologically active polypeptide, selected from the BMP-binding domains, operatively linked to a second polypeptide selected from a mono- or polyvalent carrier polypeptide or second biologically active polypeptide; (3) polyclonal antiserum, obtainable by immunization of a mammal with an antigenic quantity of the BMP-binding domain or the polypeptide fragment; (4) producing the BMP-binding domain; (5) monoclonal antibody against the BMP-binding domain, the polypeptide fragment, or a monoclonal anti-RGM A antibody the binding of the antibody to RGM A being modulated by the BMP-binding domain, polypeptide fragment, or antigen-binding fragment, optionally in humanized form; (6) pharmaceutical agent containing a carrier of at least one active component selected from the BMP-binding domain, polypeptide fragment or fusion protein, and the monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies; (7) expression vector containing at least one coding nucleic acid sequence for the BMP-binding domain, fusion protein, or polypeptide fragment, operatively linked to at least one regulatory nucleic acid sequence; (8) recombinant microorganism bearing at least one of the vector; (9) hybridoma cell line, which produces the monoclonal antibody; and (10) producing a monoclonal antibody involving cultivating the hybridoma cell line and the produced protein product is isolated from the culture.
