PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To create seamless images of a virtual microscope slide.;SOLUTION: According to a method (300), a plurality of scanned image portions of the virtual slide are stored in accordance with position index metric associated with the position of each image in a mosaic representation of the entire slide and a normalized correlation search is performed on next neighbor regional image blocks. A set of relative positional offset values and correlation coefficient are determined for the regional image blocks and the next neighbor regional image blocks. A portion of the regional image blocks is viewed as a field of view of display and a composite of the portion of regional image blocks is stitched together in accordance with the set of relative positional offset values and the correlation coefficient, such that only the blocks comprising the portion are combined.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
