PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool having a hard coating layer which shows excellent wear resistance in high speed cutting of heat resistant alloy.;SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool has the hard coating layer formed by the vapor deposition on the surface of a base body made of cemented carbide or the surface of a base body made of high-speed tool steel. The hard coating layer is composed of (a) an upper layer having a mean layer thickness of 0.5 to 1.5 μm and a lower layer having a mean layer thickness of 2 to 6 μm, either of them being composed of (Ti, Al, Cr)N; and (b) the upper layer has an alternately laminated structure of a thin layer A and a thin layer B, either of them having a mean layer thickness per one layer of 5 to 20 nm (nano meter) respectively, and the thin layer A and the thin layer B are composed of a (Ti, Al, Cr)N layer satisfying specific composition formulas respectively; and (c) the lower layer has a single phase structure and is composed of a (Ti, Al, Cr)N layer satisfying a specific composition formula.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
