PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the modification of a flexible plastic material under mild, simple and short-time treating conditions on a practical level to effectively suppress the dissolution of a plasticizer in the flexible plastic material.;SOLUTION: The surface of a flexible plastic material such as a polyvinyl chloride resin containing a plasticizer is modified to suppress the dissolution of the plasticizer by irradiating the plastic material with energy rays such as ultraviolet rays of a wavelength of ≤365 nm at a cumulative UV quantity of 5-500 J/cm², preferably 50-200 J/cm². It is also preferable to irradiate the material with radiation such as γ-rays under evacuated condition at an irradiation dose of ≥50 kGy, preferably ≥200 kGy.
