PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To recognize road paint with accuracy by appropriately extracting image patterns that form the same road paint from the original road image information.;SOLUTION: A system for recognizing road paint includes: an image information acquisition means 6 for acquiring road image information including images of road paint; a contour line information extracting means 7 for extracting information on the contour lines of areas that are likely to be the road paint included in the road image information acquired; a polygon dividing means 8 for dividing a closed area included in the contour line information into a plurality of projecting area polygons for computing main axes; a main axis computing means 16 for computing the main axis on which the cross-sectional secondary moment of each of the projecting area polygons is at its minimum; and an interconnecting means 11 by which the plurality of projecting area polygons joined to one another via sides crossing the main axis, with differences in the direction of the main axis being within a predetermined tolerance, are interconnected as an assembly constituting the same road paint.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
