PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device capable of converting light from a light emitting element to specified polarized light with high efficiency and equipped with constitution having sufficient durability even when heat is generated with light emission. PSOLUTION: The light source device 10 is equipped with the light emitting element 16 and a reflection type polarizing plate 12 composed of a stripe-shaped metallic film 14 on the light emitting side of the light emitting element 16. By such constitution, the polarized light having the specified axis of polarization is suitably emitted from the light source device, and the polarizing plate 12 functions as a polarizing plate having high heat resistance.
