PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the refining and production methods for obtaining a high purity metal hydroxide useful for a plating raw material, filler for plastics or a raw material of metallurgy or ceramic industry by economically recovering the metals in a metal salt waste such as a plating or desulfurization waste liquid as high purity fine particle hydroxides, and also to provide hydroxides and oxides obtained by their methods, a synthetic resin composition and a synthetic resin molded article.;SOLUTION: A metal salt comprising a metal, the sulfate of which has low solubility in water and having a high solubility at high temperatures is added to a metal hydroxide to be refined which contains at least sulfate ions as impurities to perform hydrothermal treatment. The coarse particles precipitated by the above treatment are separated from fine particles by classification, or a precipitated solid content is washed by water to remove the sulfate ions. Aluminum hydroxide or magnesium hydroxide obtained by the above processes can suitably be used for a flame retardant material to be mixed in a resin.;COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
