PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a detection reagent and a detection method of bacteria capable of adequately treating the malignancy of Helicobacter pylori.;SOLUTION: The detection reagent of a vacuolation toxin VacA of the Helicobacter pylori includes at least one kind selected from a group comprising ganglioside and chemical modifiers of its lyso-form. The detection method of VacA in a sample includes a process for preparing sample solution by mixing the detection reagent and the sample including VacA, and a process for measuring a signal from the sample solution by using a detection means corresponding to the detection reagent used in the preparation process.
