PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder with which the elastic body working force of a hinge is easily adjustable. PSOLUTION: The automatic document feeder is equipped with a hinge 10 for freely openably and closably mounting an automatic document feeder body 2 to an image forming apparatus 1. The hinge 10 has a spring 16 for energizing the automatic document feeder body 2 so as to offset the rotational force by its own weight and a screw 20 for adjusting the energizing force by the spring 16. Further, the screw 20 is provided with a knob 21 for changing the width of the screw 20 from a direction approximately perpendicular to the working direction of the engaging force by the spring 16, thereby making it possible to open the automatic document feeder body 2 in the same manner as with installation of an ordinary document to a contact glass without disassembling the device and to adjust the elastic force of the spring 16.
