PPROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for sterilizing food product using a microbubble-mixed sodium hypochlorite diluent which enables satisfactory sterilization of a food product such as cut vegetables without anxiety of available chlorine concentration. PSOLUTION: The method includes jetting microbubble-dissolved water in the sodium hypochlorite diluent to form the microbubble-mixed sodium hypochlorite diluent which is mixed with microbubbles each having a diameter of about 50 micrometers or less. food product is soaked in the microbubble-mixed sodium hypochlorite diluent, alternatively the microbubble-containing sodium hypochlorite diluent is jetted to the food product to supply the microbubbles to the bare skin of the food product and blow out the microbubbles so as to bring the sodium hypochlorite diluent into contact with the bare skin of the food product for sterilization.
