A high-voltage insulator for attaching a high-voltage wire in an electrical installation or on a power line contains an insulating body, the first end of which is intended for mechanical connection with a high-voltage wire and / or with its mounting device, to the second end of which a metal fitting is attached to fix the insulator to the support. To give the insulator the properties of a lightning protection device, it is additionally equipped with a multi-electrode system (MES) consisting of m electrodes mechanically connected to the insulating body and located between its ends. The electrodes are installed with the possibility of forming an electric discharge between adjacent electrodes, between an electrode adjacent to the first end of the insulating body and a high-voltage wire or its mounting fittings, as well as between an electrode adjacent to the second end of the insulating body, and a metal fittings connected to the support. The insulator is equipped with means to compensate for the reduction in the creepage distance of the insulator introduced by the MES. A power line using such insulators does not require the use of lightning arresters.
