Subject: system for the determination of the geographical position of life-buoys in the sea and transmission of the related information to existing search and rescue centers. Constitution: life-buoy transceivers installed onto freely-floating life-buoys and information collectors which, being located on rescue means receiving the emissions of the transceivers, are liable to extract the position information issued from each transceiver and sending this information via an Emergency Position Indication Radio Beacon (EPIRB signal) or /and an Automatic Identification System (AIS) to the search and rescue centres. Advantage: transmission of the geographical position of life-buoys at reduced cost (transceivers of low-cost construction); use of EPIRB or/and AIS transceivers set on the information collectors covering, synchronically, a great number of life-buoys.
