This invention relates to an improved technique for performing subclavian vein puncture, using, sternoclavicular joint and medial end of clavicle, course of carotid pulsation, wherein, the needle is introduced at a point just beneath the midpoint of clavicle and advanced posterior to clavicle, keeping the needle close to the under surface of clavicle, the direction of the needle always pointing towards the point of confluence of internal jugular and subclavian veins, just lateral to the lower end of carotid pulsations, behind and just above the medical end of clavicle until entry into the vein is signalled.
