Disclosed are ATP-dependent luciferases from the genome of Arachnocampa (Diptera). The luciferases catalyse luminescence reactions with emission spectra within the blue portion of the spectrum and have a maximum emission intensity at wavelengths less than 530 +/- 5 nm. The luciferase can be used as in assays as a reporter signal.
