A radio frequency identification (RFID) tag (10) is disclosed. The tag (10) comprises a base layer (38), a middle layer (32) coupled to the base layer (38), and an outer layer (36) coupled to the middle layer (32). An adhesive layer is coupled to the base layer (38) for attaching the body to the surface of an object to be identified. There is an RFID system that is carried by the middle layer (32). The system comprises at least one memory storage device for storing an asset identification number. The RFID system transmits the asset information system when interrogated. The tag (10) also comprises a human readable number (44) and a barcode (46) that are visible on the outer surface of the outer layer (36). This human readable number (44) and barcode (46) are same as the asset identification number.
