Use of a CC chemokine mutant, which contains at least two mutations in the cationic site of the 40 s loop, and which, relative to the wild-type molecule, has a reduced GAG-binding activity, for the preparation of a pharmaceutical composition for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and/or other demyelinating diseases, wherein the CC chemokine is selected from RANTES, MIP-1alfa, MIP-1beta, MIP-3, MIP-4, HCC1, I309, I35612 and MCP-2. Further the invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition containing said chemokine mutant, truncated and mutated human RANTES, DNA sequence coding the same, an expression vector containing this DNA and a host cell.
