Process for reducing the COD of effluents by phytoremediation oily corn-esparto; its application to the treatment of depleted coolants.; New process for reducing the COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) effluent oily liquids industrial origin, based on a system of phytoremediation consisting of hydroponics maize plants growing on media esparto fibers inside watertight containers conveniently aerated, which, when applied to the treatment of coolants out from the metal machining industry in just five days can reduce the COD values ​​well below the authorized level. The method is advantageous over traditional methods because being an ecological process phytoremediation, with a biodegradable and reusable final residue as organic fertilizer, is also more economical by avoiding the high water consumption representing the common practice of diluting the effluent or the high cost of bioreactors designed for the same purpose.
