A Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain CEN.PK 113-5D ethanol producer, which is able to grow and produce ethanol from lignocellulosic hydrolysates of compounds which comprises growth inhibitors furfural group and 5-hydroxy-methyl furfural, in a fermentation discontinuously, batchwise or continuously feeding strain is upregulated and / or overexpressed compared to ADH6 gene, wherein the alcohol dehydrogenase is NADPH-dependent.
