The present invention is to offer a hydantoin derivative useful as atherapeutic agent for hypoalbuminaemia with high safety.This invention relates to an improving agent forhypoalbuminaemia containing a hydantoin derivative represented bythe formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as aneffective ingredient.(see formula I)[In the formula, each of R1 and R2, which may be the same or different,represents hydrogen, an alkyl group or a cycloalkyl group; and each ofX and Y, which may be the same or different, represents hydrogen, ahydroxyl group, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group, or X and Y togetherrepresent an oxo group.]It is apparent from the above-mentioned clinical test that theadministration of the compound of the present invention gave anincrease of serum albumin value of patients suffering fromhypoalbuminaemia and, therefore, an improving effect of the compoundof the present invention for hypoalbuminaemia was shown.Consequently, the compounds of the present invention are very usefulas a therapeutic agent for hypoalbuminaemia.
