APPARATUS FOR TRANSFERRING A FAST RUNNING FIBROUS WEB FROM A FIRST LOCATION TO A SECOND LOCATION

An apparatus for transferring a fast-running, ready-dried fibrous web from afirst location to another with minimal undesirable motion is described. Theapparatus includes an air foil defining a web support surface which extendssubstantially continuously from a first processing location to a secondprocessing location, and includes at least two air supply channels extendingsubstantially perpendicular to the direction of web travel across the air foilfor providing flows of pressurized air between the foil and the web beingprocessed in the general direction of web travel. In this way, a layer ofreduced static pressure is provided which stabilizes the web againstundesirable motion, while the build up of dust is minimized.
