The present invention is directed in part towards methods of modulating thefunction of calcium channels with pyridine- or 1,4-dihydropyridine-basedcompounds. In addition, the invention describes methods of preventing andtreating a cardiovascular disease or a neurological disorder in organisms witha compound identified by the invention. Furthermore, the invention pertains topyridine- or 1,4-dihydropyridine-based compounds and pharmaceuticalcompositions comprising these compounds.
