NSAID-CONTAINING TOPICAL FORMULATIONS THAT DEMONSTRATE CHEMOPREVENTIVE ACTIVITY

Disclosed herein are chemopreventive methods and topical formulations for theprevention and treatment of ultraviolet light-induced skin cancers, pre-cancerous lesions, and hyperproliferative disorders in mammals, such ashumans, utilizing doses of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Low doses ofnon-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are present in the topical formulationsand allow continued regular use over an extended period of time to preventsuch disorders. In particular, the present invention is particularly suitablefor non-melanoma skin cancers as these cancers tend to appear in areas of theskin that have had excess sun exposure (head, neck and arms) meaning that thechemopreventive agent would not need to be applied over the entire body of thetypical patient. Moreover, it is possible to identify "high-risk" individualswithin the populations because people who report one episode of NMSC tend tohave a high incidence of a subsequent episode.
