The invention relates to products and methods for the research, diagnosis, riskassessment, course monitoring, treatment and prophylaxis of various metabolicdisorders and their early forms, concomitant diseases and secondary diseases.Metabolic diseases in the aforementioned sense include, among others, metabolicsyndrome, non-insulin-dependent diabetes, (type II diabetes), insulin resistance,obesity (adiposis), in addition to diseases that are associated with disordersof the fatty acid metabolism. The inventive methods can be used, among other things,for determining the concentration of the adipocytic form of the fatty acid bindingprotein (A-FABP, FABP 4, P2) in various bodily fluids.
