A functional food composition and/or a nutraceutical composition for managing peripheral arterial disease in an individual. The composition comprises a processed component from a pulse crop wherein said processed component is effective for stimulation of production and/or secretion of adinopectin in said individual. The pulse crop is one of beans, peas, chickpeas, lentils, lupins, and mixtures thereof. The processed component may be one of a liquid, pastes, powders, flakes, particulates, granules, and mixtures thereof.
