An optical receiver according to the present invention is an optical receiver that recognizes a remote light source emitting light having a wavelength within a predetermined range. The optical receiver includes an image sensor in which an image of the light source is formed; and an image processor detecting a position and brightness of the image formed in the image sensor. According to the resulting image processed from the image processor, a cursor on a screen of the display device is moved to perform a pointing operation. To allow the cursor to indicate a position to be pointed on the screen, a movement direction of the light source and an orientation angle difference are used. Also, to perform a selection operation with respect to an object positioned at a specific position on the screen, a combination of a series of operations in which the remote light source is turned on or off for a certain time may be performed in a predetermined order.
