Disclosed are a method and a reagent for detecting, in peripheral blood, patients suffering from digestive system cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer by analyzing genes that have a change in expression in digestive system cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer cases in comparison to a healthy individual. Specifically disclosed are a method for obtaining at least one gene expression profile selected from a group that comprises probes corresponding to genes that have a change in expression in digestive system cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer cases in comparison to a healthy individual, to detect, in peripheral blood, patients suffering from digestive system cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer on the basis of the expression profile; and a reagent for detecting digestive system cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer that includes either nucleotides comprising at least one gene base sequence selected from a group that comprises probes having a change in expression in digestive system cancer, stomach cancer, colon cancer, pancreatic cancer, or biliary tract cancer, or nucleotides that include a partial sequence thereof or a complementary sequence of each.
