The present invention relates to a composition containing Saururus chinensis extract or Sauchinone as an active ingredient, which inhibits the expression or activity of liver X receptor α (LXRα) or sterol response element binding protein-1 (SREBP-1), and which can thus be used in preventing, improving, and treating diseases caused by the overexpression or activity of LXRα or SREBP-1. The composition of the present invention exhibits remarkable effects of inhibiting adipogenic gene expression, and further inhibiting the accumulation of triglycerides in liver tissue, and therefore is advantageous in treating fatty liver caused by metabolic disorders resulting from a high-fat diet. In addition, the composition of the present invention can be effectively used in preventing, improving, and treating, for example, liver diseases such as fatty liver caused by the accumulation of liver lipids, hypertriglyceridemia, hyperreninemia, renin-induced hypertension, aldosteronism, adrenoleukodystrophy, glomerulosclerosis, proteinuria, renal failure, etc.
