An elevator (lift) cabin has a pulley belt (12) drive. The belt has embedded load-bearing cores (21). The belt has two flat short sides and two long sided contact surfaces. Each contact surface (20.4; 20.5) has two raised ridges whose cross-sectional profile is that of a truncated pyramid. The ratio of the belt (12) maximum width (w) to the maximum height (t) is in the range 0.8 to 1.0, preferably 1.
