The present invention is directed to diarylmethylamide derivatives represented of structural formula I which are melanin-concentrating hormone receptor antagonists, and are useful as an agent for the prevention, treatment, or remedy of various circulatory diseases, neurological diseases, metabolic diseases, reproductive system diseases, respiratory diseases, digestive diseases, and the like. The invention is also directed to pharmaceutical compositions comprising these compounds and the use of these compounds and compositions in the prevention or treatment of such diseases in which the melanin-concentrating hormone is involved.
