According to a first aspect, the invention relates to a method for determining the quality of the atmosphere of a target inside environment, which includes the steps of: measuring the concentrations of a plurality of polluting elements in the atmosphere of the target inside environment, assigning a grade to each of said polluting elements, said grade being based on the measured concentration of said polluting element relative to one or more quality thresholds, each quality threshold corresponding to a distribution percentile of the measured concentrations for said polluting element in inside environments of the same type as the target inside environment, determining an overall index on the basis of the grades for said polluting elements. The invention also relates to a device capable of implementing the method according to the first aspect.
