A method of operating a radio tuner, comprising: monitoring a quality indicator of a first frequency signal, to which the radio tuner is tuned, and when the value of the quality indicator falls below a predetermined first quality indicator threshold value, and the magnitude and the speed of the fall arc greater than predetermined magnitude and speed threshold values, searching for an alternative frequency signal carrying the same radio programme as the first frequency signal. Upon the searching for an alternative frequency signal carrying the same radio programme as the first frequency signal, if no such alternative frequency signal is found, the radio remains tuned to the first frequency signal and the radio programme is played at reduced volume.
