METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATICALLY RECOVERING CHROMATICITY AND IMAGE VARIATION OF COLOUR CLIPPED IMAGE REGIONS

A computer implemented method and system automatically recovers chromaticity and image variation of clipped image regions in a video image represented by source image data stored in a computer-readable memory. The source image data is processed so as to identify clipped regions corresponding to color clipping, which are expanded so as to derive respective color channels of one or more Color Lines wherein at least one undipped color channel preserves details that are eliminated in at least one clipped color channel. The clipped channels of one or more Color Lines are corrected using information in the at least one undipped color channel so as to generate corrected image data, which is stored for subsequent rendering.
