PURPOSE: An improved wiener filtering device for increasing the watermark detection performance and a method thereof are provided to predict the dispersion values of noises by applying a masking window, accurately, depending on whether an image is the original image before the watermarking. CONSTITUTION: An improved wiener filtering method for increasing the watermark detection performance comprises the following steps of: subdividing an image into plural areas based on characteristics of the image(310); and adaptively applying one or more among masking windows to the subdivided areas(320). The areas include a flat region, an edge region and a texture area. The masking windows include a square masking window, linear masking windows and cross-X masking windows. The square masking window is applied to the flat region, the linear masking windows are applied to the edge region, and the cross-X masking windows are applied to the texture area.
