ORAL PHARMACEUTICLA COMPOSITION CONTAINGING LUTEIN USING SELF-MICRO EMULSION SYSTEM

PURPOSE: A pharmaceutical composition for oral administration of lutein using a self emulsifying drug delivery system is provided to enhance solubility of lutein and to effectively deliver lutein in vivo and in vitro. CONSTITUTION: A pharmaceutical composition for oral administration of lutein contains a mixture of oil phase/surfactant/co-surfactant and lutein. The mixture contains 50-70 volume% of surfactant, 5-25 volume% of co-surfactant, and 10-50 volume% of oil. The surfactant is selectd from the group consisting of Labrosol, Capryol PGMC, polyoxylated castor oil, tween, and span. The co-surfactant is selected from the group consisting of Transcutol-PH, Lutrol-E400, Peceol, Lauroglycol 90, and Capryol 90. The oil phase is selected from the group consisting of Phosal 35, Phosal 53 MCT, Peceol, and Labrafac CC.
