PURPOSE: An electronic parking brake system and a control method thereof are provided to ensure operation stability and driver safety by effectively detecting the failure of an electronic parking brake device.;CONSTITUTION: An electronic parking brake system comprises a parking brake device, a brake force detector(110), an electronic control unit(100), a motor(10), a current detector(130), and a voltage detector. The parking brake device comprises a parking cable(40). The brake force detector detects the tension of the parking cable. The electronic control unit measures the brake force of the parking brake device based on the tension. The electronic control unit estimates the brake force of the parking brake device using a fuzzy model. The electronic control unit determines the failure of the parking brake device based on the measured brake force and the estimated brake force. The motor applies the tension to the parking cable. The current detector detects the currents of the motor. The voltage detector detects the voltage of a battery, which supplies power to the motor.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2011
