MOTION ESTIMATION METHOD AND APPARTUS PROVIDING SUB-PIXEL ACCURACY, AND VIDEO ENCODER USING THE SAME

PURPOSE: A motion estimation method and apparatus having sub-pixel accuracy, and a video encoder using the same are provided to considerably reduce the computational complexity while not greatly generating a motion estimation error. CONSTITUTION: A block division unit(110) divides an input frame. A motion search unit(120) searches a motion vector for a current block. According to a first modeling function, a half pixel selection unit(130) selects the first location of half pixel precision. A standard value computation unit(140) computes the reference value of the first location. According to a second modeling function, a quarter pixel selection unit(150) selects the second position of quarter pixel precision. According to the selected second position, a motion vector decision unit(155) decides a final motion vector.
