The present invention relates to a bismuth-molybdenum-iron-phosphorus-containing metal oxide catalyst, a process for producing the same, and a process for producing 1,3-butadiene using the catalyst. More particularly, Molybdenum-iron-phosphorus metal oxide catalyst and a process for its preparation. The present invention also relates to a method for producing 1,3-butadiene in high yield by using butene under the metal oxide catalyst. The metal oxide catalyst of the present invention can maintain high activity for a long time in the production of 1,3-butadiene, and is suitable for mass production of 1.3-butadiene.
