PURPOSE: A method for separating carbon nanotubes is provided to separate semiconductive carbon nanotubes and metallic carbon nanotubes based on the selective bond of a carboxylic group in the semiconductive carbon nanotubes with respect to amine group-based surface modified magnetic nanoparticles.;CONSTITUTION: A carbon nanotubes solution containing carbon nanotubes with function groups is mixed with surface modified magnetic nanoparticles. The surface modification of the magnetic nanoparticles is implemented using functional groups which covalently bond with the functional groups of the carbon nanotubes. Magnetic field is applied to the mixture to separate semiconductor carbon nanotubes and metallic carbon nanotubes. The functional groups of the carbon nanotubes are carboxylic groups. The functional groups covalently bonds with the carboxylic groups are one or more selected from a group including a cyan group, amine group, hydroxyl group, carboxylic group, halide group, nitrate group, thiocyan group, thiosulfate group, and vinyl group.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2012
