The device has a linear mass scale (10) i.e. incremental scale, illuminated by a light source (38.1) i.e. LED. A telecentrical optical system (30) comprises blocks (31) i.e. plastic mold parts, that exhibit a surface (32). A lens element (33) is designed as an integral component of the blocks, and an area (32.1) of the surface of the blocks forms a surface of the element. A telecentrical aperture is realized in a form of a mirror surface (35) that is formed at another area (32.2) and inclined at angle (theta) of less than 90 degrees regarding an optical axis (34) of the element. An independent claim is also included for a guiding system comprising a body.
