Apparatus and method for unsharp masking removing impulse noise

PURPOSE: An unsharp masking apparatus for removing impulse noise and a method thereof are provided to reduce noise and emphasize detailed information such as an edge, thereby providing an image with improved picture quality. CONSTITUTION: A high frequency component extracting unit(110) generates the first image made of a high frequency component extracted from an original image inputted from the outside by a high pass filter. A noise cancellation unit(120) removes noise of the original image by a band pass filter to generate the second image. A picture quality improving unit(130) adds the pixel value of each pixel configuring the first image to the pixel value of each pixel configuring the second image to generate a result image.
