Cutting unit, in particular for use in a labelling device of a labelling machine, having a cutting drum which can be driven so as to rotate about a drum axis and has at least one cutting-drum knife which is provided on the drum circumference and a knife shaft which can be driven synchronously with the cutting drum via a transmission but in the opposite direction to the cutting drum and has at least one mating knife which interacts with the cutting-drum knife for cutting, wherein the knife gap which is formed during cutting between the cutting-drum knife and the mating knife is set by means of an adjusting apparatus which has a pivotable actuating lever by changing the rotary position of the knife shaft relative to the rotary position of the cutting drum with the aid of an actuating element which acts on the rotary-angle adjustment means by way of at least one control face and can move relative to the rotary-angle adjustment means.
