The invention relates to the field of technical physics, more particularly, to a refractometric instrument designed to measure the refractive index of the solid and liquid media. The refractometer comprises a monochromatic light source (monochromator with an incandescent lamp or a xenon lamp), the measuring prism and a device for determining the position of the boundary of light and shade, comprising eyepiece camera sensitive in a wide spectral range. The test object placed on the measuring prism of the refractometer, is illuminated with monochromatic light through the multicore fiber optic cable (FOC) consisting of several optical fibers (three or more), each of which has a light-guiding core and a cladding, wherein the centers of the fibers at both ends of the cable lie on one line. Butt FOC connectable to the exit slit of the monochromator, is oriented so that the line connecting the centers of the fibers parallel to the slit. End of FOC, from which the monochromatic light that illuminates the object under study, oriented so that the line connecting the centers of the fibers parallel to the edge of the measuring prism. The technical result is the possibility of measuring the refractive index of liquid and solid media at any wavelength in the range from 375 to 1150 nm with an accuracy of ± 5 × 10 ^-5.
