A device for increasing the braking power of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine (1) of an internal combustion vehicle in the engine braking mode, containing an engine braking device located inside the engine, at least one exhaust gas turbocharger (4) with an exhaust gas turbine (8 ) and the charge air compressor (3), as well as two exhaust manifold paths (5, 6), through which the exhaust gases pushed out of several cylinders are fed into groups to the turbine (8) through its inlet (7; 7a, 7b) , moreover, each exhaust manifold path (5, 6) in the engine braking mode is completely blocked by a shut-off element (10, 11), while from the overlapped section of each exhaust manifold path (5, 6) branches closed and opened by the control body (12, 13) bypass line (14, 15), the end section of which, made in the wall (16) of the turbine housing in the form of a nozzle hole (14 ', 1 5 '), with a direction at least approximately tangentially to the outer zone of the turbine wheel (17), it exits into the turbine chamber (18), and in the engine braking mode from the exhaust gases accumulated in the closed exhaust manifold paths (5, 6) through bypass lines (14, 15) branch off two partial exhaust streams, which are then through the nozzle openings (14 ', 15') either in the form of two exhaust jets, or combined into one exhaust jet, at high pressure and at high speed fall on the rotor blades of the turbine wheel (17), as a result of which the turbocharger (4) is accelerated, due to which the combustion chambers
